10 of the most ridiculous things Trump supporters often tell me they believe:
1. That Barack Obama caused the 2008 crash and Donald Trump came in and fixed the economy after he ruined it.
Of course, this is insane since the crash occurred before Obama ever became president, and the economy was at historic levels of growth when Trump first took office after the 2016 election.
2. Joe Biden ordered the FBI to start the attack on our Capitol on January 6, 2021 in an attempt to arrest Trump and send him to prison.
Being that Trump was president on January 6, 2021 — as Biden had yet to be sworn in — and the FBI was still being run by Trump’s handpicked director Christopher Wray, you don’t need to dig very deep to realize that nothing about this claim makes any sense.
3. Democrats are rigging elections.
If that were true, then why did Trump win in 2016 and 2024 despite Democrats controlling the White House during both of those elections? Why have Republicans controlled all or part of Congress for the majority of the past 20 years? Why did Trump win all the key swing states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania in 2016 and 2024 despite both being mostly controlled by Democrats? Why did Joe Biden win Georgia and Arizona, two states run by Republicans, in 2020? Even now, with Republicans in complete control of Congress and the White House, they still claim Democrats are "rigging elections."
4. Since returning to the White House, the economy has drastically improved under Trump.
There isn’t a single major economic metric that’s better today than a year ago. 2025 was the worst year for job growth in years, and 2026 is shaping up to be even worse. The nation’s GDP is growing at a slower rate than before he was president. Stocks have risen at a much slower pace. Meanwhile, inflation is no better now than it was a year ago. Even his tariffs didn’t do anything to decrease our trade deficits, which actually increased in 2025.
5. The United States is more respected than ever.
I just got back from London — trust me, the world doesn’t respect the United States at all right now. They’re all looking at us like, "How in the hell did this incompetent buffoon manage to get elected — twice?" Additionally, as Trump begs for help to bail him out of the growing quagmire developing in the Middle East due to his war in Iran, our allies have basically blown him off and mocked him.
6. Donald Trump is a devout Christian, and the reason you almost never hear about him going to church is because he's too busy.
Interesting, he never seems too busy to spend hours a day posting rants on social media, watching cable news, or taking trips to Florida nearly every weekend to play golf. You're telling me he can't find a couple of hours once a week to attend church since, you know, the Bible is his "favorite book"?
7. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are to blame for the war in Iran and today’s high gas prices.
This one’s obviously fairly new, but every day I see more and more comments alluding to this idea. The "logic" is that Iran has been a massive threat for years, with the policies of Obama and Biden allowing them to become even more dangerous, which forced Trump's hand to start the war he promised he never would. Clearly, they’ve forgotten Trump was president between Obama and Biden. If Iran were such an immediate threat, then why didn’t he do anything about them during his first term, and why did he spend his 2024 campaign promising not to go to war with them?
8. Trump’s MAHA movement is going to make Americans healthy.
Funny, I remember when Michelle Obama pushed initiatives to encourage Americans, especially children, to eat healthier, and these same people called her everything from a socialist to a communist. Fox News had entire segments mocking the Obamas’ "coming for your kids’ cookies." Now they’re all in on "health," led by a president who famously eats practically nothing but fast food, drinks an absurd amount of Diet Coke per day, and has zero history of ever working out or trying to be healthy in any way. All of this is led by a conspiracy theorist, RFK Jr., who has zero medical background, a history of drug use, and is a frequent user of nicotine pouches — which aren’t remotely healthy.
9. The "fake news" mainstream media is out to get Trump and suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome.
This is said by the same people who watch the same cable news network, Fox News, which brags about having the highest ratings, settled a nearly $1 billion lawsuit after being caught lying on air, with many hosts making public statements about stories that, in private, they knew weren’t true. The network is literally filled with 95% conservative pundits and personalities, including Trump’s own daughter-in-law and several people who have worked for him in the past. It has effectively become Trump’s own version of state-run media, defending scandals tied to him that we all know they would be outraged over if any Democrat were involved.
10. Donald Trump is strong and honest, a true patriot who's "owning those liberal snowflakes."
Trump is, by far, the weakest, most pathetically whiny snowflake I’ve ever seen. He spends hours every week crying on social media, living in perpetual victimhood, and lashing out at everyone from actors to world leaders. You will not find a better example of an "easily triggered snowflake" than Donald J. Trump. As for his "honesty," according to Politifact, 76% of everything they’ve fact-checked about Trump has been Mostly False, False, or Pants on Fire — only 10% has been Mostly True or True. In other words, 90% of everything he’s said has been dishonest.
As usual, there are a lot more I could list here, but I’ll save some of those for another post.
